Hereford Racecourse was a horse racing venue located in Hereford, Herefordshire, owned by Herefordshire Council. Arena Racing Company held the lease for operating Thoroughbred racing fixtures there until December 2012. The course is almost square in shape with a circuit of about a mile-and-a-half.〔''British Racing and Racecourses'' (ISBN 978-0950139722) by Marion Rose Halpenny - Page 145〕 Opened in 1771〔 the course was greatly modernised in the 1960s,〔 with also in 1966 a photo-finish camera being installed.〔 Having failed to obtain a new lease from the Herefordshire Council, Arena Racing Company ceased operations there in December 2012. 〔Telegraph Sport, ("Hereford and Folkestone racecourses forced to close down" ) ''The Telegraph'', 27/07/2012〕 Hereford staged its final Thoroughbred race meeting on 16 December 2012,〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Hereford Racecourse stages its final meeting )〕 but is still used for Arabian racing.〔 The course was used by the North Herefordshire Hunt in for a Point to point in May 2014 and will be the venue for 2 point to points in 2015. The course will stage Arabian Horse Racing in 2015. Two Point to Points will again be staged at the course in 2016, The North Ledbury in April and The North Herefordshire Hunt at the end of May. The Racing Post newspaper reported in September 2015 that after a long period of no dialogue Herefordshire County Council had recently held talks with Arena Racing Company over the future of the course.
